BIMHUIS Records presents BIM 016: Kit Downes - REFLEX: DR. SNAP
REFLEX is a series of BIMHUIS Productions in which we have invited artists to reflect on the current zeitgeist in new work. We present the live recordings on BIMHUIS Records.
"DR. SNAP was some kind of rogue chemist, a 'Breaking Bad' kind of dude. He got shot at a lot, and kept everyone feeling good". BIMHUIS Productions invited Kit Downes to write new work for REFLEX. Downes decided to make something big. He branched out his trio ENEMY into a brand new 'family band' consisting of artists hailing from disparate scenes. With three drummers (!) and an enormous backdrop of hallucinogenic visuals by Juliane Schutz, Downes got loud, garish and 'in-your-face'.
British pianist, organist and harmonium player Kit Downes (1986) is a BBC Jazz Award winning, Mercury Music Award nominated, solo artist for ECM Records. He has collaborated with drum-‘n-bass pioneer Squarepusher, singer-songwriter Sam Amidon and jazz group Empirical, among others. Downes has also composed for London Contemporary Orchestra and Ensemble Klang. He is a composing member of ENEMY, the monster trio with double bassist Petter Eldh and drummer James Maddren, with whom he has already released two albums.
